Many people with hypertension can lower their blood pressure into a healthy range by making lifestyle changes. These changes include getting regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet with less salt and alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, and managing stress. If these changes aren’t enough to lower your blood pressure, your doctor may recommend taking medication, which won’t cure your high blood pressure but will help control it. You will likely need to take the medication for the rest of your life. Work with your doctor to create a treatment plan to manage your blood pressure.
