It depends on the type of hypertension you have. Most people with high blood pressure are diagnosed with primary (essential) hypertension, which cannot be cured. However, by making lifestyle changes and taking medication as needed, primary hypertension can be managed to lower blood pressure into a healthy range. About 6% of the time, hypertension is caused by an underlying medical condition. When this happens, it is called secondary hypertension, which can be cured in many patients when their underlying medical condition is treated successfully.
